Infiorata 2010 Genzano di Roma

Infiorata - Genzano di Roma

As tradition also this year, in the month of June, the historical Infiorata will take place in Genzano di Roma. The feast was originally connected to the Christian celebration of Corpus Christi, whose tradition has been handed down for over two centuries.

The paintings, maked up with more than 350.000 flowers and plant-essences, will have as theme an homage to Michelangelo Merisi “Caravaggio”.

The various steps of the feast are: design and preparation of sketches, piking flowers and essences, “spelluccamento” - separation of petals from corolla and their preservation in the caves of the City – drawings on the ground (Saturday evening), laying of petals (Sunday morning), the completed “Infiorata” (early afternoon on Sunday), the Corpus Christi procession (Sunday evening), and finally “spallamento” – when children ran from the Church of Santa Maria discarding the flower-paintings.
